About this artwork
For another painting, I was looking for a suitable background in blue: I first tried out an ultramarine blue (dark) and turquoise blue (light) in suitable shades on the computer; on the canvas, I added a shade of green that suggested an algae-like depth to the dark blue sea color.
The result is a very meditative, almost motionless mood that allows the viewer to look out into an infinite expanse of silence and reminds him of the poem "Meeres Stille"… by J.~W. von Goethe from 1795:
Deep silence reigns in the water, / The sea rests without movement, /
And the sailor looks sadly at the smooth surface all around.
No air from any side! / Deathly silence, terrible! /
In the immense expanse / not a single wave moves.
This picture is also a contribution to the 250th birthday of C.~D. Friedrich and his picture "The Monk by the Sea".
Siegfried Bausch, a versatile artist, moves between painting and sculpture, his roots lie in mathematics and civil engineering. Using acrylic paints, he uses gestural abstraction and geometric precision, which create an effective contrast. With the help of his art, he expresses the contradictions between idealized social ideas and experienced reality. His abstract works encourage the viewer to explore personally and reflect emotionally.
