About this artwork
The subject of this painting is a singer songwriter who my husband and I befriended, who often sang at our 'Arty Parties'. He's quite sharp and intelligent, but distant, fond of a drink and perhaps hiding somewhat behind that. There's a softness to him too which is perhaps what he is wanting to hide. I entitled this piece 'Sorted' as I feel it reflects his confidence that he projects.
It is framed with hard wood we brought back from Cameroon, Africa.… We saw men cutting the wood with chainsaws and fell in love with the marks the chainsaws left in the wood. Bespoke frames were made from this wood, and painted black, with a touch of genuine gold leaf. They are totally unique and one of a kind. There are only 4 frames like this. So this comes as an added bonus with this painting.
