Susan Greeff

Susan Greeff is a South African contemporary abstract artist whose work moves between the body, landscape and abstraction. Working intuitively, she builds paintings through layers of colour, gesture and mark making, allowing images to emerge, disappear and change as the work develops.

Her paintings are shaped by lived experience and by a close connection to the natural world, particularly the sea, changing light, warmth and the rhythms of the landscape. Rather than describing a particular place or moment, these influences become something remembered and felt.

Moving between abstraction and traces of the familiar, Greeff’s work holds a tension between spontaneity and restraint. Layered surfaces, translucent colour and expressive marks create spaces that can feel intimate, sensual and ambiguous, leaving room for viewers to find their own associations and memories within them.
