This work continues my exploration of the human figure through atmosphere and material, but here the body takes on a more direct and open presence. The figure sits with an expanded posture—arms raised, legs spread—suggesting both exposure and a kind of quiet assertion.
Working on kraft paper shifts the relationship between figure and ground. The warm tone of the surface becomes part of the body itself, allowing the drawing to emerge through subtraction… and contrast rather than being built only from line. Charcoal is used both to define and to disrupt, creating areas of density that coexist with more fragile, unfinished marks.
The face remains partially unresolved, resisting full definition. This was intentional: I’m less interested in identity than in presence. The body is clear, almost grounded, while the head stays uncertain, creating a tension between what is seen and what remains inaccessible.

Adrià Cabiscol is a self-taught artist who works primarily with charcoal, drawing, and mixed dry media, focused on the expressive potential of portraiture. His technique balances gestural mark-making with underlying structure, embracing smudging, layering, erasing, and visible corrections to explore the dynamic tension between construction and dissolution. Through these raw, searching gestures, his art conveys the vulnerability and fleeting presence of the human figure, evoking deep empathy and introspection in the viewer.
