This work shifts my focus toward the face as a fragmented and unstable territory rather than a fixed portrait. The image does not aim to describe a specific identity, but to explore how a presence can emerge through interruption, erasure, and reconstruction.
Working on kraft paper allows the figure to surface through contrast, where light is preserved and the darker areas are built through accumulation. The face appears in… layers—some parts are articulated with precision, while others dissolve into the surrounding marks, as if they were still in the process of forming.
There is a tension between structure and disruption. The underlying anatomy is present, but it is constantly being challenged by gestural strokes and areas of ambiguity. This creates a sense of movement within the image, as if the face were shifting between clarity and disappearance.

Adrià Cabiscol is a self-taught artist who works primarily with charcoal, drawing, and mixed dry media, focused on the expressive potential of portraiture. His technique balances gestural mark-making with underlying structure, embracing smudging, layering, erasing, and visible corrections to explore the dynamic tension between construction and dissolution. Through these raw, searching gestures, his art conveys the vulnerability and fleeting presence of the human figure, evoking deep empathy and introspection in the viewer.
