About this artwork
This work is part of the EXISTENCE or ENERGY project.
I've always been drawn to abstract expressionism. I've created many works using this technique, especially in the early years of my career. The colorful, energetic strokes appear chaotic, just as life, existence, and the energy that animates it are chaotic and multifaceted. Yet when viewed from a universal and global perspective, they possess a harmonious rhythm and a marvelous order, like a… dance of strokes and colors. These works are created entirely by sketching the canvas with small pencils; the brush never touches the surface. Their creation is a primordial act, instinctive and sudden, yet behind it lies a study of where and how to drip the paint, so that the whole thing has meaning.
Alessandra Merli uses a variety of natural materials such as sand, stone, glass, paper, wood, and fabric, combining her classical training with philosophical passions. Her technique encompasses abstract art, informal art, abstract expressionism, and conceptual art, giving visual form to values, principles, and metaphysical concepts through signs, colors, and words. In her paintings, she conveys profound emotions and invites reflection on beauty, spirituality, and the essential values of existence, encouraging the viewer to elevate themselves and rediscover the meaning of life.
