About this artwork
This painting captures a simple and peaceful moment at home — a little dog fast asleep in its cosy bed, completely relaxed and lost in its dreams. I was drawn to the contrast between the quiet, sleeping figure of the dog and the lively colours and patterns surrounding it.
The colourful interior is built from bold geometric shapes, rich reds, blues, purples and yellows, creating a playful decorative setting around the soft, curled-up dog. The striped… cushion and textured basket add another layer of pattern and rhythm to the composition.
I enjoy working with oil pastel because it allows me to build up saturated colour while keeping the texture of the paper and individual strokes visible. The tactile marks give the work a spontaneous and handmade quality.
For me, the painting is about the small moments of comfort that make a home feel special — a favourite place to sleep, a quiet afternoon and the simple pleasure of feeling completely safe and at ease.
