About this artwork
Reading Time captures a quiet moment of leisure, where books, fresh fruit, and a glass of wine come together on a sunlit table. The open book at the centre of the composition invites the viewer to pause and settle into the unhurried rhythm of an afternoon spent reading.
Created in oil pastel on paper, the work transforms an intimate domestic scene through expressive marks and a bold, sophisticated palette. Golden yellows, cobalt blues, rich reds,… turquoise, and lavender create strong colour relationships throughout the composition, while the textured surface of the pastel adds warmth and tactile quality.
The arrangement of books, fruit, wine, and everyday objects suggests a simple ritual of relaxation and contemplation. Rather than focusing on precise realism, the painting uses colour, pattern, and expressive line to convey the atmosphere of a slow, pleasurable afternoon.
