About this artwork
The peach tree covered with peaches just before their peak of ripeness is a favorite subject for me too paint. It seems as if a moment too long is an opportunity lost because the squirrels will beat me to them and then there are none left. Over the years I have painted peaches in many mediums, on the plate, in the landscape, falling from the sky, under the tree, but never have I painted a very large painting in watercolor that could capture the… luminosity of the fresh fruit. The issue is the difficulty framing under a glazing.
"Golden Orbs" on Arches coldpress wc paper was painted with watercolor and gauche and laid on a cradled board. The work was first fixed so the watercolor won't move, then the entire work was brushed with several coats of acrylic. When all is absolutely dry I gently rub the acrylic finish with cold wax then buff it leaving a soft finish and ready to frame without glazing or just hung with no extra framing with a contemporary look.
Alix Hallman Travis is a painter with a background of formal study at the Cleveland Institute of Art and the Art Students League in New York, working primarily in watercolors and oils. She employs loose, expressive brushwork in watercolor and bold palette knife techniques with oils, preferring whimsy and vibrant, imaginative compositions over strict realism. Her work joyfully captures the life of local communities, radiating optimism and happiness through her signature use of radiant yellows, aiming to evoke the same delight and warmth she feels about the world around her.
