About this artwork
Safe & Sound is a mixed-media work created with ink and acrylic on handmade paper. The paper pulp was formed within a metal mesh during the papermaking process, leaving behind a subtle textured grid that becomes embedded within the surface of the piece.
Inspired by stories of displacement, migration, and the search for refuge, the work reflects themes of vulnerability, protection, and human resilience. Interwoven lines and layered forms surround… the resting figure, suggesting both shelter and uncertainty while emphasizing the emotional complexity of seeking safety in an unsettled world.
Through tactile surface, intricate mark-making, and handmade process, the piece explores the fragile connections between identity, memory, and belonging.
