About this artwork
The technique used, with which he applies countless layers of paint over a longer period of time, incorporates details and then disappears, is still one of his basic working methods. The aim is to simulate a naturally created surface, which often only allows further planning of the completion of the subject in the last weeks of its completion.
There is another special feature of this work: the artist created a layer of color on a film in parallel,… which he removed after completion and also incorporated into the painting over a large area. The color structure created in this way has a fascinating depth and contrasts beautifully with the relief-like surface of the rest of the work.

« Art that fascinates me is often like a symbiosis of philosophical magic and good craft. »
Andreas Garbe represents contemporary painting of exceptional breadth. His internationally exhibited works are found in private collections worldwide and enjoy great demand – a growing success also documented by price developments: within the past ten years, the prices of his works have tripled.
Garbe moves with ease between figuration and abstraction: landscape, the human figure, literature, and social observation converge with a second, radically free side to his work. He signs particularly intuitive and abstract pieces as Julio Fernandez – an independent artistic identity under which color, movement, and spontaneous impulse determine the creative process.
Using acrylic, oil and resin on canvas, Garbe develops a distinctive oeuvre that lies between Big History, philosophy and society on the one hand and absolute painterly freedom on the other.
