Fragmented Marilyn deliberately plays with perception and the distance between the work and the viewer.
Up close, the composition initially appears almost abstract. Hundreds of geometric, pointed color fields overlap and interpenetrate each other. Luminous yellow, red, and magenta meet deep blue, white, and individual contrasting color accents. The eye follows shapes, colors,… and movements without being able to grasp the entire motif immediately.
Only when the viewer gains distance from the image do the individual fragments begin to visually merge. From the apparent abstraction, Marilyn Monroe's face gradually emerges. What appears up close as color and geometry becomes a portrait from afar.
This shift in perception is an essential element of the work. The viewer must change their own position in order to fully discover the image.

Andreas Gerlach combines digital techniques and classic printmaking to create a unique visual language of geometry, abstraction, color, and rhythm. Influenced by his training as a graphic designer and his studies in mechanical engineering, his work blends constructive precision with intuitive design.
Music plays a central role. Gerlach explores the question of what music does to us: How do rhythm, sound, and dynamics influence our emotions, memories, and perception? He translates this invisible effect into visual structures.
