“Upwards” is a textile mixed-media work that makes movement, development and inner strength visible.
The vertical composition is supported by a powerful, sculptural structure that rises from the surface like a growing body. Folded, hand-worked textile elements form a dynamic, almost organic surface, reminiscent of ascent, change, and transformation.
Warm, earthy tones blend with cool, deep nuances, creating a captivating balance between tranquility… and energy. The delicate hand-stitched details and the use of handcrafted materials lend the piece a multifaceted tactile quality and an intense, vibrant presence.
"Upwards" tells a story of inner growth, of the power to develop and transcend oneself. The work unfolds its effect particularly in space – as a quiet yet powerful impulse of movement and direction.
Anke Pradel-Schönknecht uses textile materials as well as painting, collage, and mixed media – her creative path led her from classical painting through studies in textile and surface design to experimental textile art. With sophisticated techniques such as dyeing, printing, sewing, and layering diverse materials, she creates three-dimensional relief images and art quilts that combine tactile and visual stimuli. Her artworks convey curiosity, sensuality, and a captivating depth; they invite viewers to understand structures not only visually but also emotionally.
