About this artwork
My work "Departure" deliberately plays with contrasts and depth, which I achieved by adding extra padding to the materials applied to the canvas. This emphasized the three-dimensional, the sublime, and further intensified it with dense, intensive hand embroidery. Like expressionist painting, I applied this expressive embroidery across the entire image. However, I deliberately omitted the embroidery from my central motif, the departure itself, which…
is clearly rendered in dark blue, in order to emphasize it.
