About this artwork
I call this painting Red Sky at Night. It is of a local scene near my home and depicts one of the early settlers log homes that were built around the 1840's. In this case a group of Irish Roman Catholics were brought over to settle the land in this area. Many died because the land is very poor and rocky. The family must have survived and it is still a working farm today. As a retired history teacher I find these place fascinating and have painted…
them many times. The painting is on a birch panel and shows the house and barn with a pond in the foreground. It is sunset and the sky is an orange red. The title alludes to the old saying A Red Sky at Night, Shepherds Delight.
