About this artwork
Τhe ‘Wave’ piece works on a wave-like structure (hence the name) with the colours in the background creating layers and a subtle large scale movement. Like in every piece of the Angel energy series, here too there are paper fragments of wild animals and female figures from fashion editorials as well as textured cut outs of colourful papers. All these cut outs create the last layer of the artwork that carefully sits on top of the other layers and…
builds a thought out frame for the more abstract background.

‘The dreamy quality I often chase in my practice is about accepting that a different world is possible, we only need to perceive it first. In this context I like to think of my artistry as a celebration and an act of resistance.'
Athina Pappa is an artist with a Diploma in Architecture from Democritus University of Thrace in Greece and a Master’s in Visual Communication (majored in illustration) from Birmingham City University in the UK.
Her academic focus has constantly been the notion of metaphor and visual symbolism. She has painted since she was three years old and she has been doing it professionally since 2012.
Her style is a vibrant blend of dream-pop symbolism and feminine spirituality, employing expressive layers of acrylics, oil pastels and collage textures with influences from visionary art and art nouveau. She crafts works that evoke a sense of wonder, optimism, the urgency for harmony between humans and nature and for the balancing of the male-female energy dipole.
