About this artwork
A young woman stands still in silent reflection — her gaze turned inward, yet touched with a hint of playfulness, as if she has just noticed something intimate. Her nude body, painted in translucent yet expressive strokes of dreaming, forms unusual, lyrical lines — becoming both the form and the content. She is vulnerable, but not defenseless. There is strength in her stillness.
The background is filled with abstract flowers — ephemeral and ghostly,… like memories or imagined visions. They echo inner states, forming an emotional landscape that surrounds and flows through the figure.
In this work, the human body is not an object, but a landscape — alive, shifting, uncertain. I was captivated by the contrast between the grounded presence of the figure and the fluidity of the surrounding space. What truths emerge in the quiet tension between awareness and illusion?
Born in an artistic family, Varvara Efimova merges her 13-year academic training in fine arts with contemporary stylistic elements. Employing personal mixed techniques that include delicate transparency and thick expressive layers of oil paint, her works appear as visual poetry, infusing unexpected color combinations and emphasizing the atmosphere over imagery. Through her exploration of emotional states and metaphoric usage of nature, Efimova beautifully captures the subtle tension between vulnerability and strength.
