"Artifacts" (35*30 with frame, 25*20)
Walking along the shore, we long to take with us the sensations we feel by the sea. These vivid emotions, these unrepeatable feelings.
But the light is fleeting, the sound of the waves is finite, the scent of the endless ocean dissolves…
All that remains is to look down and notice the gifts of oceanic life that the water brings to our feet: seashells, fragments of coral, intricate driftwood carried here from… unknown shores.
These souvenirs are witnesses of the underwater universe that is hidden from us.
We can touch them, study their textures, sense their stories and even take them home as a memory.
This artwork is inspired by the marine relics found along the waterline, by a reverence for every natural texture, and by the fascination with how the elements transform every shape.
The frame for this artwork is handmade by me crafted from the very same artifacts I collected while walking along the edge of the breaking waves.

Born in an artistic family, Varvara Efimova merges her 13-year academic training in fine arts with contemporary stylistic elements. Employing personal mixed techniques that include delicate transparency and thick expressive layers of oil paint, her works appear as visual poetry, infusing unexpected color combinations and emphasizing the atmosphere over imagery. Through her exploration of emotional states and metaphoric usage of nature, Efimova beautifully captures the subtle tension between vulnerability and strength.
