About this artwork
Among my most distinctive works are calligraphic portraits handwritten with ink and a broad-nib pen—intimate, word-based depictions of historical and contemporary figures. These are not traditional illustrations, but rather multifaceted interpretations in which text becomes image. Personalities such as Willy Brandt, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Frida Kahlo, Greta Thunberg, and Joseph Beuys emerge not through shading or photorealism, but through the meticulous…
shaping of their own words. In these portraits, I allow each subject to "write" itself, using their thoughts and visions as raw material for my image. There are no gradations, only pure contrast: light and shadow, drawn by the flowing movement of language. These works invite the viewer to read as much as they see, engaging both eye and mind in an act of simultaneous perception.
