About this artwork
This still life was created as part of the Strada Easel Challenge, which encourages participants to consciously perceive their subjects and sharpen their observational skills. I encountered the kiwano, also known as the horned melon, for the first time during this challenge. Its unusual shape and intense colors immediately made it a captivating subject.
What I found particularly fascinating was the contrast between the warm, luminous, rough outer… peel and the fresh, vibrant green inside the fruit. These contrasts of warm and cool, as well as light and dark, define the visual effect.
The painting was created in a loose, impressionistic style, where my main focus was on the first visual impression.
Thus, a simple still life becomes a small homage to curiosity – to the moment when you see something for the first time and rediscover it through painting.
Bernd Weber is a passionate painter who began as a self-taught artist and was influenced by international workshops. He primarily uses oil and acrylic paints, favors impressionistic plein air painting, and relies on quick, spontaneous brushstrokes to capture light, atmosphere, and the fleeting nature of a moment. His style is defined by direct observation of nature and combines classical landscapes with modern still lifes. His paintings convey a vivid longing for the outdoors and always capture the intense mood of the moment.
