About this artwork
This painting was inspired by a fleeting moment I captured while painting a plein air study near a rock formation. I saw a group of children climb the stones and start playing a game of tag — that simple, joyful chase that every child remembers. In that instant, I was transported back to my own childhood — carefree days spent outdoors, discovering the world with friends, where imagination turned every stick, stone, or shadow into an adventure.
The… scene is painted from that feeling — not just a memory, but a sensation of freedom and lightness. The rough geometry of the rocks contrasts with the softness of youth, echoing the energy and laughter that once filled endless summer days. It’s about that pure joy of being alive, before time began to move too fast — when even finding the perfect stick could make you feel like the hero of your own story.
Bogdan Shiptenko is a contemporary Ukrainian artist born in 1994 in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine. He works primarily with watercolor, acrylic, and graphic media, focusing on figurative painting and urban themes. He holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts and has over 15 years of professional artistic practice, with more than 10 years of international sales.
Shiptenko’s work explores the relationship between people and the urban environment — architecture, streets, cafés, and the everyday rhythm of city life. His distinctive style combines expressive watercolor and dynamic multi-figure compositions, capturing both the energy of crowds and moments of quiet solitude.
A central part of his practice is the long-term series People on the White, which reflects on contemporary urban society, human routines and overconsumption set against minimalist white backgrounds. Bogdan Shiptenko has participated in numerous exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad, his works are held in private collections worldwide.
