Another image captured at the White Tank campground in Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California. White Tank Granite is igneous rock that was formed through a process called intrusion. When magma from deep within the Earth is forced up to the surface it combines with other rocks. Once the magma cools and hardens it appears as we see it today. This intrusion into the overlying rock took place about 135-155 million years ago. …
