About this artwork
"Thumb Slide"
I found this amalgamation of boulders on Split Rock trail in Joshua Tree National Park. The lighting wasn't harsh, with an overcast softening the shadows. Otherwise, a more perfect placement of rocks is hard to find. The slope carrying us down from the thumb and its corresponding profile contrasts the busyness of the boulders in the background. The rocks themselves are intriguing, and one wonders how they could have held up here for… thousands of years. The agave in the front peeking up as if curious. A brush of the afternoon sky highlighting an otherwise dark visage.
