Troubadour is part of my ongoing Rogues' Gallery series, which explores the musicians, storytellers, bartenders, and late-night philosophers who populate cafés, bars, and public gathering places around the world.
Inspired in part by my years living in Mexico, the painting centers on a solitary performer whose music creates a temporary community among strangers sharing the same space. The figure is not a portrait of a specific individual but a composite… character drawn from observation, travel, and memory.
Through expressive linework, simplified forms, and bold color, I seek to capture atmosphere and emotional presence rather than literal likeness. Like the other inhabitants of the Rogues' Gallery, the troubadour exists somewhere between memory and imagination, inviting viewers to create their own stories about the music being played and the audience listening beyond the frame.
