About this artwork
An original upcycling work made from a mosaic of colored aluminum squares, cut from cans collected everywhere. These "pixels" are stapled onto a PVC panel (a support recovered from printing shops), without adding paint.
With this painting, a diversion from Mondrian's "Composition in Blue, Red and Yellow", I wanted to address two themes that are dear to me:
- Tribute to crossbreeding by replacing the primary colors with the corresponding secondaries… which are 2 by 2 mixtures of the primaries.
- And denunciation of the standardization of cultures and lifestyles with whites becoming gray because of bar codes, this symbol of globalization and mass distribution which transforms everything into a consumer product.
Buying committed art and upcycling means supporting an artist's approach that wants to be part of the solutions rather than the problem.
CanB primarily uses recycled aluminum cans, drawing on a background combining art history and creative self-teaching in Reunion Island. His innovative technique blends a meticulous mosaic of metallic "pixels" with artisanal rigor, exploring diverse styles—from Impressionism to Surrealism—and creating immersive and fascinating works. His creations, both luminous and committed, convey hope, wonder, and a keen awareness of the fragile beauty of the world we share.
