About this artwork
My eye caught the door number with dark blue contours; it was a "6" written with the Narrow Helvetica character on a white background. According to Simon Garfield, Helvetica is not dazzling but shows what is beyond it, in the backyard. To see what is beyond, I opened the door and look inside the ger, the Mongolian tent. As soon as I entered, an old Mongolian welcomed me. I felt the strong smell of airag, the drink made of fermented horse milk. The…
horse belongs to the steppes; maybe they brought it here to make airag?

Caner Karavit is an award-winning Turkish artist whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in China and Italy. The painter and printmaker separates his artistic outlook and journey into two separate stages. The first being influenced by Western art, which he interpreted through performances, paintings, printmaking, and wood carvings. Karavit's second stage is deeply affected by Chinese art and Buddhist philosophy, which is evident in his more recent works.
