Pine Trees and Valley:
The inner reaction of humans to shape the earth first arose from their necessities. Those priorities were the first interventions made in the name of defence, agriculture and trade. As those needs were met, other efforts to shape the earth arose; cemeteries to remember their ancestors, temples to satisfy the need to believe in a god etc. Those two efforts to shape the earth brought with them aesthetic needs. Humans have always… tried to make out expressions from what the scene had become after natural phenomena, wondering about the meaning of the unfortunate eclipse of the sun or the anger of the roaring thunder. Scary creatures that emerged between trees and rocks, the terrifying sounds of high winds in the winter, and the appearance of yarn-like clouds resembling ghosts should have really scared our ancestors. Especially in the absence of a focus point or horizon in nature…

Caner Karavit is an award-winning Turkish artist whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in China and Italy. The painter and printmaker separates his artistic outlook and journey into two separate stages. The first being influenced by Western art, which he interpreted through performances, paintings, printmaking, and wood carvings. Karavit's second stage is deeply affected by Chinese art and Buddhist philosophy, which is evident in his more recent works.
