About this artwork
In "White Rose," I explore human existence within the tension between individual freedom and institutional power. The work documents a turning point in my artistic practice: a shift towards current events as a moral compass. Inspired by the events in Weimar in 2021, the white rose here becomes a symbol against dictatorial tendencies and for the sanctuary of the family. Mother and child are depicted with a sacred monumentality, while the town hall…
remains in the background as a witness to state intervention.
I visualize the protest against mandatory mask-wearing not as a political debate, but as an act of civic courage; the rose and the cracked ground evoke an atmosphere of resistance and collective gratitude. In my tactile oil painting, the emotional burden of this era becomes physically tangible.
