About this artwork
This painting, "Urban Connections," with its clean lines and symbolic figures, is a mixed-media piece depicting a contemporary urban landscape. I wanted to express both my fascination with the beauty and complexity of current urban architecture, and my anxiety about a certain inhumanity, accentuated by the sheer scale and the materials used. It's beautiful, cold, and playful, like a Lego set. The humans we imagine in the towers give way to machines,…
to robots... One of them monitors and coordinates. Everything is almost in order, but then a hat flies off—thank you, Jacques Prévert, the poet! All is not lost! There's also the little car and the adorable "Ampelmännchen" (little lamp men), a nod to a place I love.
