This drawing represents a reinterpretation of an anatomical cross-section of the human torso, whose internal structure is gradually colonized and reinvented by matter and living things. Flowers, foliage, lichens, and anemones gradually replace the organs, thus merging the human with other kingdoms.
Along the carotid arteries flourish plant species endemic to New Caledonia: Syzygium acre, from the Myrtaceae family, and Amborella trichopoda, a primitive… plant, an endemic treasure considered to be the oldest living lineage of flowering plants, a "plant mother" of the current flora, which appeared about 135 million years ago.
As anatomy evolves, the lungs transform into a beehive. The bees here symbolize teamwork, perseverance, and the interdependence of ecosystems.
This work thus offers a poetic and committed vision of a body inhabited by the memory of the living.
Charlotte Mollet primarily uses drawing, drawing on a rich artistic training from Paris to Brussels, but forged her unique style through her time in New Caledonia. Her works, imbued with dreamlike realism and surrealism, reinterpret the anatomical illustration to reveal the fragility of our connection to the living world, incorporating elements of the South Pacific's natural environment and scientific references. Her creations invite us to experience wonder at nature and remind us of the profound—sometimes forgotten—connection between humanity and its environment.
