This artwork symbolically explores the human brain, shown from below as a sensitive map of thought and inner life. In place of hemispheres, a coral bouquet of Diplora labyrinthiformis unfolds its sinuous patterns, reminiscent of the sulci of the cortex. At the center emerges Gorgonocéphalus eucnémis, a deep-sea brittle star with multiple arms, embodying profound memory and instinctive intelligence. On either side, spinal nerves extend into fins inspired… by the scorpionfish Pterois volitans, ending in points evoking the barb of a ray, a symbol of awakening. Through these hybrid forms, the artwork questions sensitivity, transmission, and our nature in connection with the living world.
Charlotte Mollet primarily uses drawing, drawing on a rich artistic training from Paris to Brussels, but forged her unique style through her time in New Caledonia. Her works, imbued with dreamlike realism and surrealism, reinterpret the anatomical illustration to reveal the fragility of our connection to the living world, incorporating elements of the South Pacific's natural environment and scientific references. Her creations invite us to experience wonder at nature and remind us of the profound—sometimes forgotten—connection between humanity and its environment.
