“Breath of the Grey Center”
Breath of the Grey Center opens like a field cracking from the depths of silence.
Countless particles — dust-born fragments of preserved light —
carry an unformed presence: condensing, scattering, returning again.
At the core, the dense grey-brown mass is neither surface nor figure;
it is the raw substance of memory before it acquires a name,
a dark concentration expanding within itself,
sending muted pulses outward,…
like a black lung slowly awakening.
Around it, colors spill in near-organic diffusion:
yellow presses forward with its heat,
green pierces like a shard of cold light,
and blue leaves, in the deepest region, a fissure that resists interpretation.
Each layer devours yet shelters the next,
as if an unseen force threads through the whole —
a pull, a thrust, a downward drift from an unnamed source........

Chien-Li Chen, a painter and visual artist trained at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Toulouse, works across painting and visual symbolism to explore time, memory, and perception.
