About this artwork
This painting is comprised of an old wine glass and a selection of small origami boxes that give luminous colour and movement through the diagonal construction. The still life painting does not contain any hidden message such as a Vanitas still life, but is more concerned with the arrangement of simple forms in the way that some abstract paintings might. In this way the painting is about the simple contemplation of shapes, colour and subtle brushwork…

Chris Macauley believes that a painting should work on a purely visual and descriptive level. The UK-based artist’s painterly and abstract works portray landscapes, as well as the figurative. When creating, Macauley tries to balance control with accidents. He isn’t interested in the realistic copying of his subject matter. Instead, and through color, his compositions radiate an ‘inner glow’.
