This still life painting is like a little three dimensional abstract sculpture. The origami cubes were placed in the glass to create a balanced group of shapes and colours to contemplate, with a simple paper back drop to create a stable structure to compliment the strong diagonals within the cubes. Chris Macauley believes that a painting should work on a purely visual and descriptive level. The UK-based artist’s painterly and abstract works portray landscapes, as well as the figurative. When creating, Macauley tries to balance control with accidents. He isn’t interested in the realistic copying of his subject matter. Instead, and through color, his compositions radiate an ‘inner glow’.
