About this artwork
Cityscape 1 and 2 are abstract interpretations of the feeling of inner city - the hustle and bustle, the monochrome of all the manmade voices that overshadow nature, but still, beauty is there -- in the energy and movement, in the texture and contrast. It is simultaneously a critique and a celebration of city life.
The process of creating these paintings was vibrant and energetic, and I was called to both create and destroy while painting it -… drilled and burned holes contrasting with the built up plaster, streaked with almost violent marks from various sharp and pointy things. In this, the energy of the creation of the painting embodies the subject -- full of a loving violence, an exuberant energy that does not colour within the lines!
