About this artwork
My painting Untitled (Series 4, No. 1) depicts an elderly man looking at the viewer from a slightly elevated perspective. He wears a simple white T-shirt and dark trousers. His body is slightly bent forward, his left hand resting on his hip, while his right arm hangs loosely at his side. He appears confident. The background is blurred and in shades of brown, which are reflected in the figure, so that the focus is entirely on the person depicted.…
The unusual perspective makes eye contact seem more intense. It shows my uncle. His posture expresses dominance and reflects the power imbalance I felt as a child. He appears distant, as if he wants to occupy the space and compel the viewer's gaze, which reflects his personality.

Claudia Kaak is a painter with a background in art education, specializing in figurative-realistic oil painting.
