About this artwork
Lately, The Moon’s Promise has started to feel less like a poetic title and more like a political one.
The tight grids and rotating blocks echo the way authoritarianism loves pattern and control—systems that insist there’s only one way to be, to think, to live. The darker fields feel like the long night we’re in as the U.S. stumbles through a constitutional crisis.
But the painting won’t stay in that register. The warm yellows and ember reds keep… pushing through, the star at the center looks like it’s still turning, and the small misalignments refuse a perfect, rigid order. That’s where I see protest, care, community, and the stubborn belief that this isn’t the only pattern available to us.
The Moon’s Promise is my reminder that every long night is still part of a cycle—not a destination. If you’re feeling that weight too, I hope this piece helps you remember that dawn is already on its way, even when the sky is still dark.
Danette Newton, a seasoned artist armed with oil paints and acrylics, originates from a modest background. Her vibrant, geometric designs are interlaced with abstract, figural landscapes, produced free-hand demonstrating the beauty in natural imperfections. Newton’s creations are a dynamic exploration of color relationships, and an empathetic ode to the perfectly flawed human condition.
