About this artwork
My aim in painting this wasn't to create a realistic animal portrait. I was interested in the personality behind the gaze. That's why… I worked with bold colors, spontaneous brushstrokes, and many layers. The tropical leaves frame the figure without distracting from it.
For me, the painting tells of those surprising moments when we recognize ourselves in the animal world. It's a work with character, it stands out, and I hope it brings as much joy to the viewer as it did to me while painting it.

What interests me is the tension between control and letting go. I work in layers – building up, reworking, revealing. Sometimes a painting is finished in hours, sometimes I work on it for weeks. Palette knives, brushes, flowing paint – whatever the painting needs.
The subjects change. Animals, cars, people. I paint what moves me, what challenges me, what I don't yet understand.
My works are held in private and institutional collections in Europe, the USA, and South Korea. In 2026, I was a jury member at the Geoje International Art Festival in South Korea—an experience that profoundly influenced me.
