About this artwork
The painting, "The Passage," an oil on canvas executed in 2021, marks my return to oil painting after several years exploring acrylics (see my first series here). The photograph barely reveals the fine details. It is a small philosophical and poetic tale. To enter the frame of life, and into the light, one must pass to the other side of the wall. Seven ants, symbols of humanity in search of truth, at the bottom of the painting, seek to climb this…
wall to enter the frame, to step outside the social concept and discover the uniqueness of life. With this painting, I received the Grand Prize for Painting at the "Salon des Artistes Normands" in Rouen in 2023, and the Prix du Cercle des Arts in Plessis-Bouchard, Val d'Oise, in 2022.

Daniel Olivier, a painter and draftsman trained from childhood, excels in the mastery of oil painting, where he experiments with mixtures of rare oils and complex glazes. He blends surrealism, symbolism, and hyperrealism, integrating the harmony of regulating lines and the golden ratio into each composition. His work reveals the poetic and energetic power of nature, inviting the viewer to profound contemplation, a search for beauty, meaning, and a sincere and luminous connection.
