About this artwork
Three blessed letters, three letters that have more and more respect lavished on them these days. Once again, three. Once again, an allusion to the triad, to the Trinity.
In truth, they came into being much earlier. These three letters—VIP—were inscribed on the golden gates at the entrance to the sector of Olympus that was off-limits to mortals, the sector where the gods drank nectar and ate ambrosia. The inscription VIP also graces the ninth… circle of Hell. And, according to Dante’s eyewitness testimony, it also adorns the special loge in Paradise where Beatrice and Rachel keep themselves busy. To paraphrase a well-known Soviet children’s poem, all sorts of VIPs are needed, all sorts of VIPs are greeted.
