About this artwork
In the Winter Field possesses a calm, contemplative presence. The figures stand in the space without urgency, allowing the gaze to slow down and linger. The open surface and subdued color palette create a counterpoint to the visual noise of everyday life. Daria Startseva is a painter with a background in graphic design, trained in Vienna and Helsinki, and, after a career as an art director, devoted herself entirely to art in Zurich. She uses layered oil, acrylic, and mixed media, moving between poetic abstraction and reduced figuration, and experimenting with various media. In her rhythmic, intuitive compositions, she uses color as a vehicle of emotion, making the fleeting visible and the invisible tangible. Her works invite the viewer to intensely experience silent emotions and visual presence.
