“Volo” represents a group of people: the material I used to create the work is a metaphor for the story the work itself contains.
The little men are reminiscent of table football players, but free, unconstrained by the game's constrained movement; in this work, they are crafted from "worn," almost "wise" wood, as only experience and time can shape.
The wing tied to the string of one of them represents the possibility and, at the same time, the… dream of flying, even in a group; the wing allows everyone to take flight, to grow, to be able to see life from a distance, from above.
Mutual interaction, teamwork, respect for values, and the wisdom gained from experience allow us to rise and soar.
The wing is made of cast aluminum, taken from a model from the ancient Benti foundry in Pistoia.
I'm Dario Longo. I'm afraid of colors, but when I use them, I use fluorescent ones. I can't keep my studio tidy and dream of an empty room. I'd fill a space with objects, but not with words. My art consists of a large shelf of objects. I've never thought of giving them a new life; I've always thought of living with them, of bringing them home and looking at them: you can find beauty in the small details of things that have never been art. My story begins, in fact, when a long time ago I found a foosball player. That's my number one object. Since then, I've found many other objects in life.
