About this artwork
With grace, the figures entered the celebration, laying their eyes on the others, whose wealth chose them. These are the guests of a class system of their making....and system that relies entirely on self preservation and material pleasure. They paint their scene with rainbow prototypes–false idols for a lesser god, an afterthought at most. Desire drowned by the sudden delay in festivities as the grass grew around them. This piece tells the story…
of decay in decadence and the continuing renewal of a class system were participation is mandatory.

David Kurtz, an Oklahoma-born, San Francisco-based painter, began his journey in the arts honing skills under local artists and at Weitzenhoffer College of Fine Arts. His Neo-Expressionist style, inspired by the likes of Basquiat and Rauschenberg, employs vigorous and improvisational lines with a distinctive matte effect, creating layers of depth and texture. Through his creations, themes such as civil rights, and religious influence laced with dark humor are navigated, aiming to stir a mix of discomfort and amusement in viewers.
