We are all watching, and we are all being watched. A comment on the culture of social media, Infinite Page Views began as a question I couldn't stop asking: what happens to sacred imagery in an age of endless scrolling? The central figure resembles that of a saintlike figure featured in centuries of devotional pieces, but she exists now in the same cultural cadence as a viral post, a trending moment, a fleeting click.
Spirituality and vanity are… not often blended throughout history, but perhaps the internet just collapsed the distance between them. The bright, unmodulated color commands attention, the way so much of contemporary life insists on being seen, whether or not anyone is truly looking. The title is both aspiration and accusation. For an image, infinite page views is the ultimate unattainable dream. For a human being, it could end up being closer to a nightmare.
David Kurtz, an Oklahoma-born, San Francisco-based painter, began his journey in the arts honing skills under local artists and at Weitzenhoffer College of Fine Arts. His Neo-Expressionist style, inspired by the likes of Basquiat and Rauschenberg, employs vigorous and improvisational lines with a distinctive matte effect, creating layers of depth and texture. Through his creations, themes such as civil rights, and religious influence laced with dark humor are navigated, aiming to stir a mix of discomfort and amusement in viewers.
