About this artwork
The work entitled "Transmutatis" is an abstract composition, mixing acrylic paint and walnut stain, and referring to the alchemical process. In alchemical symbolism, the vitriol, also called the green lion, designates the union of the top and the bottom, and is formed from the initials of a famous formula condensing the alchemical doctrine: "Visita interiorem terrae rectificando invenies occultum lapidem" that one can translate by "Visit the bowels…
of the Earth, by rectifying (purifying) you will find the hidden stone". The green lion is frequently depicted devouring the sun to turn it into gold.
