About this artwork
"Vitruvian Son" is inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci's c. 1490 sketch. Leonardo's Vitruvian Man, or simply L'Uomo Vitruviano, is accompanied by notes based on the work of the Roman architect Vitruvius. In my version, I used my son as the model. You could say I was one of the architects in his creation.
Debra Keirce, a painter and drawer with a background in biochemical engineering, masterfully works in oils and charcoal, drawing from rigorous classical training. She employs layered, tightly rendered traditional realism—often achieved through indirect techniques reminiscent of the Dutch Masters—across genres from photorealistic still lifes and marine art to portraits and fantastical beasts. Her artworks invite viewers into immersive narratives, evoking warm memories, wonder, and joy, aiming always to resonate with emotion and contribute positively to the well-being of those who experience her art.
