About this artwork
In this painting, I pay homage to the silent transmission between women — a gesture that crosses generations without saying a word.
The mentor, the central figure, bears the marks of her labor: a stained apron, a golden papier-mâché crown on her head—fragile, paltry, but dignified.
She extends her hand not to impose, but to show, to guide. Behind her, a woman, naked on the canvas, reproduces this same gesture.
Art is constructed this way: through… echo, gaze, and trust. This scene speaks of heritage, embodied knowledge, and humble power. To create is also to transmit.

Douce Robi
Canada
Born in Montreal, of Croatian origin, Douce Robi is a painter. In her twenties, she stayed in the south of France, where the discovery of the great masters confirmed her vocation.
Upon returning to Quebec, she trained in painting, drawing, and sculpture. Accompanied by her mentor Christine Viens, she presented her first solo exhibition, Capharnaüm, in 2018.
His multidisciplinary practice is built around a fascination with human beings.
In 2024, her series of self-portraits, Intimate Tension, explores identity, memory, and emotions.
Her desire to connect with a community led her to leave Montreal and settle in Stanstead. The people around her inspired her collection, Stansteaders, la vie frontière (Stansteaders, Border Life), exhibited at the Galerie du Vieux Forgeron in 2026. Through their faces and stories, she invites us to slow down and rediscover those we think we already know.
