About this artwork
Deep in the dark gorge, where the walls rise from the earth like sleeping giants and the wind whispers the stories of the stone, stands the rocket engine. Its steel gleams strangely and coldly under the pale sky, as if it were not made for this world, but for another, far-off one. The engine, half-destroyed but still full of power, is wedged like a collapsed rock.
A memory etched into the grey surface of the concrete fragment of a torn-down wall,… as if someone had deliberately placed it there and forgotten it. A red fire hose winds around the engine, like a living, breathing creature.
A pulsating vein that bores through the shattered piece of wall and disappears into the gorge.

Eberhard Marx is a painter and draftsman who masters Old Master painting and drawing techniques in the style of magical realism, fusing gestural lines with richly detailed symbolism and fairytale architecture. His works create a dense atmosphere between dream and history, captivating with dramatic stylistic shifts and transporting the viewer into suspenseful, enigmatic pictorial worlds full of emotion and depth.
