About this artwork
In a forgotten corner of the world, where time seems to stand still, stands an old, gnarled tree that is far more than just wood and leaves. Its trunk, etched by the years, forms a couple caught in an eternal dance of embrace. Their faces are woven into the bark, expressions of love and loss, as if the tree held the stories of their souls within itself.
to carry. Above the tree, the sky arches, dull and melancholic, while the few withered leaves… rustle in the wind like forgotten dreams. In the trunk, above the pair, lives a barn owl. From there, with its large eyes, it observes the world. It is the wise guardian of the secrets the tree has experienced and carries deep within. Its wings are the admission of a never-attainable,
perfect freedom.

Eberhard Marx is a painter and draftsman who masters Old Master painting and drawing techniques in the style of magical realism, fusing gestural lines with richly detailed symbolism and fairytale architecture. His works create a dense atmosphere between dream and history, captivating with dramatic stylistic shifts and transporting the viewer into suspenseful, enigmatic pictorial worlds full of emotion and depth.
