About this artwork
The Brazilian Themes series developed gradually from memories linked to my youth and daily life. Only later did the obvious choice of a set of images referring to Brazil and the construction of my identity become clear.
The paintings offer a sensitive vision of the country, nourished by popular culture, cultural mixing, and social realities, often set in open and luminous spaces. The vibrant and contrasting colors structure the pictorial space and… convey both the intensity of the landscape and the presence of the bodies.
The human figure occupies a central place, through simple gestures drawn from everyday life. The body becomes a site for the inscription of the social and cultural in direct relation to space, in a continuous exploration of the relationship between body, landscape, and lived experience.
Eduardo Sampaio, a Brazilian painter and draftsman, trained as an architect and visual artist, enriched by his experience in São Paulo and Paris. He adopts a contemporary approach while cultivating a deep connection with artistic traditions, mastering plastic principles and applying precise techniques to give form to tangible reality. Through his work, he evokes psychological tensions surrounding the human figure and its relationship to space, conveying a powerful emotional intensity about the individual experience in the modern world.
